The area within the radius of fifty kilometers of Eldoret possibly represents one of the highest concentrations of gold medals anywhere in the world. Almost all of them from athletics.
A number of the champion athletes have given back to the sport, developing athletics training camps in the high altitude locations so conducive for running.
Notable among them is Lornah Kiplagat, whose High Altitude Training Center regularly plays host to the cream of international athletics.
The camp is located in what is possibly the world mecca of athletics, Iten.
This small town at the edge of the Rift Valley is also home to the famous St. Patrick's High School, which has produced dozens of Olympic, World champion and World record holders. A number of these greats were nurtured under Bro. Colm O'Connell, a legend in is own right.
